More Than Sparrows
Product Information
Jamie Cosley's most recent masterpiece is a 64 page squarebound digest sized graphic novel called "More Than Sparrows." It features Jamie's trademark character Tony Pony in a story of death, life, forgiveness and hope. Cosley's approach to this sensitive story is amazing, faling into that rare category of being truly enjoyable for anyone who reads it.
"What is there to say? In my mind, this is the third greatest Christian graphic novel ever. Ever. Ever ever. First is Dennis Jones’ See With Me Bible. Second is Doug TenNapel’s CreatureTech, which was only recently unseated by See With Me Bible. Third . . . Jamie Cosley’s More Than Sparrows. I challenge you to show me a better, more perfect story. I don’t know what else to say. I mean, I could say that I found more heart and emotion on one page of this book than in entire series that I’ve read. I could say that the simplistic artwork evokes the spirit of MAUS, in which simple animal characters provide a nuanced and complicated emotional story. I could say that the ending moved me almost to tears and the only reason it didn’t is because I’m a cold hearted snake. (Look into my eyes. Oh oh oh. I’ve been telling lies.) I could say that Jamie, like the best of cartoonists, puts so much of himself on the page, and the emotional and spiritual truth cuts to the quick of both the heart and the mind, especially after multiple readings. I could say that while the artwork is simplistic in its style, it is also unbelievably emotive and engrossing. I could say that anyone who wants to see “how it’s done” should pick this up. But I’m not going to say all of that. I’m just going to say GET IT. Got it? Good." Ben Avery, writer, Armorquest, Lullaby, Hedge Knight
"The most powerful portrayal of Christian forgiveness ever done in comic book form. Sublime in its simplicity." - Paul Castiglia, veteran comic book writer and editor ("Eternity Force," "Archie's Mysteries," "Conservation Corps")
"I expected a fun little romp with Jamie's alter-ego, Tony Pony. What I got was a deceptively simple tale of forgiveness, perhaps made even more powerful by the fact that I wasn't expecting something with this much emotional weight to it. My highest possible recommendation to churches, librarians and anybody else who cares to read a well-done "funny book" with some real substance. Kudos, Jamie!"--Kneon Transitt, cartoonist
